Women in Medicine: Celebrating the Legacy, Embracing the Future took place Tues., October 16, 2018 and was held at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood from 7:30-9:30 a.m. This was the Healthcare Roundtable's 5th annual event devoted to honoring female healthcare professionals.

Women in Medicine Month is celebrated every September. It is an opportunity to honor those who have offered their time, wisdom and support to advance women in medicine. This month serves as a platform to feature the accomplishments of women healthcare professionals.

Since 2014, the Healthcare Roundtable has participated in the celebration each autumn by showcasing some of South Florida's special female healthcare professionals. We waited until October this year so as to (hopefully) avoid hurricane season. This year's provocative and timely panel discussion highlighted more remarkable women. They shared their unique stories of the challenges overcome and commented on the opportunities that lie ahead.

Meanwhile, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is every October. So, we've chosen to donate a portion of proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Did you know that 1 in 4 Americans aged 65+ fall every year? Falls are the  leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. Falls are costly in dollars and in quality of life. However, falling is not an inevitable part of aging. Through practical lifestyle adjustments, evidence-based programs, and community partnerships, the number of falls among seniors can be reduced substantially.
